I want to talk about the thinking brain, and how much energy it uses.
According to somatic researchers such as Bonnie Bainbridge-Cohen and Moshe Feldenkrais, each thought we have triggers a motor response. Even though we may be sitting, we are in motion as we ponder and plan.
Adulting requires so much planning, and because of this our thinking brain is using up oxygen and nourishment and energy. All these thoughts are giving our bodies cues for activity and the expenditure of resources.
We end up not having much left over to integrate, regenerate and renew our cells and selves. One way to create the opportunity for cellular and self renewal is to engage in “noodling”. This is the purposeful act of doing nothing at all, a form of daydreaming. Noodling is allowing yourself to be in the moment with, as they say, “Nowhere to go. Nothing to do.”
As the quote at the top states, our imaginations need that freeform time with no demand to feed creativity. I would also say that our bodies need that time of “happy idling, dawdling, and puttering.”
I offer Awake/Aware as a container in which your planning brain is free from demands. I keep track of time, guide you through a journey of support, and open up the possibility for the kind of relaxation that gives your bodyself a chance at restoration.
Schedule a consult with me to learn more about Awake/Aware and other ways my work can support your energy, creativity and resting.
