Blending tools & processes
M has been coming to see me for almost a year now as an adjunct to her work with a licensed counselor. I work with her using Transforming Touch and Somatic Experiencing. Transforming Touch allows us to bring regulation to her body. Somatic Experiencing provides tools for processing the big energy that shows up from early life experiences that were overwhelming for her body/mind.
The goal of my work with M has been to bring more safety and spaciousness to being in the present moment.
We started with touch support for her kidneys, adrenals and brainstem. Big energy would often arise during those sessions which call for somatic processing to bring in awareness of support and grounding where we were right now.
Finding new experiences
Her first big awareness outside of sessions was noticing the beginning signs of panic attacks coming on. This gave her the time and opportunity to prepare and take steps to minimize their impact. She also found herself more able to manage minorly stressful situations. Times when previously she was holding stress were now moments that she found something relaxing to pay attention to.
We did physical movements that involved feeling the energy of muscle groups in her arms and legs and initiating from those areas to release held tension. This was really helpful to her for finding new pathways of response to rising tension in her body.
Gratitude •Hope • Strength • Confidence • Presence
The work we have done over several months has made her feel grateful and hopeful. She feels strong, confident and supported. The bodywork has helped her arrive in the present moment and feel her adult strength.
